- Summary: CAIRO, EGYPT (JANUARY 11, 2025) (REUTERS) (SOUNDBITE) (Arabic) EGYPTIAN CONTENT CREATOR AND ELECTRICAL ENGINEER, ALAA EL-NADY, SAYING: “Thank God, I started two years ago and was surprised that people responded to what I was saying. Every time I raise an issue and say something here is not right, people immediately contact me, saying, 'How can we solve this? We're sorry, we didn't know. We really want to help, but no one informed us'. I then go sit with the concerned parties and solve the problem, fixing the entrance if it's inappropriate, or if there’s no access, we ensure there is one. If a bathroom is closed, we open it, whatever the issue is, we eventually reach a solution, thank God.” VARIOUS OF EL-NADY USING HIS WHEELCHAIR TO GET DOWN A RAMP EL-NADY PRODUCING A VIDEO, FILMING HIMSELF SPEAKING AND SAYING (Arabic): “I want to thank from the bottom of my heart the esteemed officials in the bank administration for their quick response to the call and for making people's lives easier." EL-NADY PRODUCING A VIDEO, FILMING HIMSELF SPEAKING AND SAYING (Arabic): "The entire ramp was demolished and rebuilt according to the standard specifications in length, height, slope, roughness, and handrail - it's perfectly done.” (SOUNDBITE) (Arabic) EGYPTIAN CONTENT CREATOR AND ELECTRICAL ENGINEER, ALAA EL-NADY, SAYING: “There were many places that were nicely equipped. More than 20 to 25 places were either not equipped or incorrectly equipped. How many responded? 14 places, meaning around 50-60% of the problems I raised on social media have been addressed and solved, thank God.” VARIOUS OF EL-NADY GETTING IN HIS CAR VARIOUS OF EL-NADY PUTTING SEAT BELT IN CAR AND DRIVING (SOUNDBITE) (Arabic) EGYPTIAN CONTENT CREATOR AND ELECTRICAL ENGINEER, ALAA EL-NADY, SAYING: “The Arab world sees us in two ways: either a person with a disability is a superhero or a burden on the society and family. Unfortunately, this is the first challenge. The second challenge is that the infrastructure in the Arab world is not prepared at all to accommodate people with disabilities. You go to the streets, public places, government institutions, universities, schools - there are no facilities for people with disabilities. We need to be able to complete our education, go to the gym to exercise, go to finish government work. I go anywhere and find myself stuck in front of the building, needing people to carry me.”

- Story Text: For the past two years, Alaa El-Nady has been creating content on social media explaining the daily challenges people with disabilities face in Egypt.
At 18 years old, El-Nady was involved in an accident in which he lost his mother and friend, as well as his ability to walk.
The 41-year-old electrical engineer now has more than 56,000 followers on Instagram where his account's introduction reads "Welcome to my world. Wheeler for 23 years".
El-Nady films himself going places on his wheelchair and inspecting the infrastructure of public and private institutions. He then posts his reviews on social media and sometimes goes back to the same place after those in charge take action following his comments.
“There were many places that were nicely equipped. More than 20 to 25 places were either not equipped or incorrectly equipped. How many responded? 14 places, meaning around 50-60% of the problems I raised on social media have been addressed and solved, thank God," the content creator said.
