Amid the sound of vendors hawking colorful MAGA gear, thousands of supporters of President-elect Donald Trump stood in line in Washington, D.C. on Sunday (January 19) to watch Trump take a victory lap on Sunday with a campaign-style rally one day before he is sworn in for a second term four years after losing the White House to Joe Biden.
The "Make America Great Again Victory Rally" is scheduled for 3 p.m. ET (1900 GMT) at the Capital One Arena but many people had arrived before sunset to try to get a seat at the rally.
This will be Trump's first major speech in Washington since he urged his supporters to march on the Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, in protest against his defeat.
With an arctic wave headed their way, the crowd was dressed for the weather, with heavy coats, warm drinks and Make America Great Again hats.
Many supporters who flew into Washington and booked hotel rooms for as much as $1,000 a night were disappointed the inauguration was going to be held indoors, but they refused to let that dampen their spirits as they eagerly anticipated Trump's return to office.
The inauguration is scheduled for noon ET (1600 GMT) on Monday, when Trump will take the presidential oath of office inside the rotunda of the Capitol building, after the cold weather prompted organizers to move the ceremony indoors. Approximately 25,000 law enforcement personnel will be on hand to provide security.
