- Story Text: Mariah Carey officially kicked off Christmas at Westfield shopping mall in London by turning on the ceremonious holiday lights on Thursday (November 19).
The singer also launched her new fragrance "Forever", signed autographs and took pictures with contestant winners.
Arriving on a pink carpet, the singer reportedly asked for 20 puppies and 100 doves to be released for her appearance but due to health and safety regulations, she was turned down.
She also signed copies of her new album "Memoirs of An Imperfect Angel", which the pop star said had a variety of styles which would keep fans interested.
"You can expect (from her new album) a lot of ballads, sexy songs, power ballads and then fun, hot, uptempo hip-hop, definitely, yeah," she said.
Carey's "All I Want For Christmas Is You" became her biggest hit in Japan and is played regularly during the holiday season. She said she enjoys spending Christmas in the British capital.
"I think London is very festive in the winter but you guys start celebrating in September. We wait until the end of November so I like to come over here and see the trees, and like today's going to be," she said.
Carey's 12th studio album, "Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel," is out now in the United Kingdom by Mercury Records.
The album follows 2008's "E=MC2," which sold 1.3 million copies in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan and spawned Carey's 18th No. 1 single on the Billboard Hot 100 ("Touch My Body"), as she surpassed Elvis Presley to claim the second-highest tally of No. 1 hits in the rock era.
