- Story Text: Mariah Carey and co star Lenny Kravitz arrived to the south of France ahead of promotion for new film "Precious" on Friday (May 15).
Executive producers of the feel-good film include Oprah Winfrey and Tyler Perry.
The film based on the novel "Push" by Sapphire tells the story of Claireece "Precious" Jones, played by Gabourey Sidibe whose home life can only be described as a horrendous nightmare.
She is pregnant for the second time by her absent father and must cater to the needs of her mother, a bitter woman who abuses her emotionally and physically.
The illiterate Precious is given a chance to attend an "alternative" school and hopes this is her ticket out of her life of misery.
Grammy award winning Carey, 40, best known for her glamorous lifestyle took on the role of Mrs Weiss, a Harlem social worker and abandoning the usual trappings of success to get to prepare for the role including gaining weight .
Carey, Kravitz and Sidibe will all grace the red carpet in Cannes later in the day when the film screens in the 'Un-Certain-Regard' selection of the competition. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
