speaks at conference for the victims of terrorism in Colombia.
Former Spanish Prime Minister Jose Maria Aznar
addressed the International Meeting of the Victims of
Terrorism on Wednesday (February 23, 2005) in Bogota, Colombia.
Aznar spoke about the need to stand with the victims.
"To confront ethnic terrorism, revolutionary terrorism,
islamic terrorism, we need to use the moral and personal
courage of their victims," said Aznar at the conference and
he added, "we need the testimony of their suffering to
understand the seriousness of the problem and it is our
duty to stand in solidarity with them."
Participants came from around the world to tell their
stories, share their pain and hopefully pass something
important along to fellow participants.
Robert McIlvaine's son died in the World Trade Center
attacks on September 11, 2001 and he expressed his
bewilderment to his fellow participants.
"In my travels, in my talks, I'm constantly trying to
connect the dots. Why would such beautiful human beings,
why were all those beautiful human beings snuffed out like
that," he asked as many in the audience cried.
The first International Meeting of the Victims of
Terrorism was held in Madrid last year.
Aznar lost the Spanish election shortly after the
Madrid train bombings which killed almost 200 people in
March 2004.
