WIDE SHOT OF BUILDING WITH FLAG OF ITALY ROME, ITALY (APRIL 28, 2020) (AAVN- ACCESS ALL) SCRIPT Italian restaurant owners, whose premises have been closed since the second week of March, say June 1 is too long to wait until they can begin to re-open. Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte has outlined plans to slowly ease the country’s seven-week lockdown saying that museums, galleries, libraries, and retailers will reopen on 18 May and bars, restaurants and hairdressers from 1 June. Restaurant owners in Rome protested the delay and sent a message to the government on Tuesday evening (28 April) by opening the doors of their businesses as if it were an ordinary spring evening. Empty tables and chairs sat on the pavements outside the normally very busy eateries. Owner of Maccheroni restaurant, Luciani Flamini said they wanted to show that their industry is in a really bad situation and that they need government help. “Even when we do open, there will be restrictions that we have to obey.” “People will be scared and will not want to enter restaurants. The state needs to help us as soon as possible,” he added. Owner of Da Fortunato Al Pantheion restaurant, Iulıano Raspagliosi said June 1 is too late for reopening. He added “If we take a look around, all other countries are taking action. Why we don’t take a step about it? Let's take all the risks, of course, with all the precautions. We are already ready, from masks to gloves to disinfectant gel. We will do our job even more seriously from today. But let us work.” Italian restaurants and bars have been closed over coronavirus fears since March 11. Italy has confirmed 201,5050 cases of the new coronavirus and 27,359 deaths according to the latest figures. Reporting by Barıs Seckin Writing by Emre Bastug
