BOYTEKS Incorporated Company affiliated with Erciyes Anadolu Holding Company in the central province of Kayseri normally produces home textile products. But the coronavirus pandemic in the world prompted the company to help the global fight against the virus in their own way. Mustafa Yildiz, General Director of the home textile factory said “When the coronavirus outbreak started in China, together with our R&D teams, we actually began to beat our brains over how we can contribute to the fight against the virus, using our innovative experiences,”. “By using this knowledge and our R&D experiences, we have worked to neutralize the virus on the fabric.” he added. Ozkan Yildizhan, the research and development manager of the company said they developed an antiviral fabric, based upon the knowledge that the outer layers of viruses are made of fat and protein. “This layer is destroyed as soon as it is attached to the antiviral fabric. The virus is automatically neutralized by this way,” Yildizhan said. “Thus, we obtain a more hygienic fabric surface,” the R&D Manager added. The company has applied to the Turkish Patent and Trademark Institution one month ago to obtain patent rights. When the deadly coronavirus started to spread globally earlier this year Turkish factories including textile companies and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) producers quickly mobilized to contribute the fight against the pandemic in the country as well as in the world. Turkey's total number of recoveries from COVID-19 pandemic on Sunday (May 17) hit 109,962 as 1,825 more patients recovered, while the active cases dropped to 35,333, said the country's health minister. The death toll from the pandemic rose to 4,140 as the country reported 44 new fatalities over the past 24 hours, Fahrettin Koca said on Twitter, citing the ministry data. The country also registered 1,368 new cases, bringing the tally to 149,435. Reporting by Ergun Haktaniyan Writing by Sibel Uygun
