"During the days under quarantine, we had more time to be busy with the nature. We planted trees where we lived. Then we thought of making a place for children where they can enjoy their days after staying home for so long," said a Palestinian man, Mohamad Al-Hatib. He lives in Ramallah with his family and works as a lawyer actively including many cases against the illegal settlements of Israel. Looking for an isolated place where they can safely enjoy the summer away from the risks of coronavirus, they came up with this idea. They searched a suitable place to build a pool and decided on a hill with a view of forests around. "We built the pool in a place with a beautiful view. Some part of the pool is placed in the cave. We made it suitable for swimming by taking every safety precaution," he told. Built among the rocks in three months, the pool seems like a natural pond. "We are having a great time here. For months, we stayed at home watching TV and playing on phones. Here we can swim and do sports. The pool is very nice," his 11-year-old daughter, Saba, said. The family enjoys the pool and its surroundings as if they were in a holiday resort. They spend the night in a tent without having to worry about the pandemic. Since July 3, certain cities in the West Bank including Ramallah have been under quarantine due to an increase in COVID-19 cases over the past month. The Palestinian Health Ministry on Tuesday, July 21, confirmed two deaths and 400 virus cases in the West Bank over the past 24 hours, including 119 infections in Hebron. The count in the West Bank and Gaza Strip now stand at 10,923, including 67 deaths. Reporting by Hisham K. Abu Shaqra Writing by Ayse Humeyra Atilgan
