  • Story Text: British driver Stuart Graham successfully defended his Royal Automobile club Tourist trophy at the Silverstone track, U.K., on Sunday (5 October).

    Driving the Faberge team's Chevrolet Camaro, Graham was first to finish the lap, 314 mile (504 kilometres).

    Belgian drivers Jean Xhenceval and Hughes de Fierlant filled second place in their Luigi racing team's BMW 3.0 CSI.

    The Tourist Trophy is undoubtedly the most prestigious saloon car race on the British motor racing calendar and, as usual, Sunday's event attracted a top class international field.

    The Trophy race is now a round in the Trophee de L'Avenir touring car Championship which has been contested throughout Europe for the first time this year.

    The one-hundred-and-seven-lap, three-hundred-and-fourteen-mile event is undoubtedly the most prestigious saloon car race on the British calender.

    Stuart Graham successfully defended the trophy he won last year in Sunday's race.

    The British driver, handling the Faberge team's Chevrolet Camaro, set up a commanding lead in the early stages and, despite a determined challenge from and, Belgian team of Xhenceval and de Fierlant, was able to win fairly comfortably. The Belgians, driving a BMW, couldn't match the power of the camaro. Graham clocked an average speed of ninety-eight miles an hour.

    The Tourist Trophy has been incorporated into the new Trophee de L'Avenir Touring Car Championship that has been contested throughout Europe for the first time this year.

    And with Sunday's win Stuart Graham has now forced his way into contention for the driver's championship.

    This year's Tourist Trophy was spilt into four classes and, as usual, it attracted a top class international field. The pace was fierce from the start to the chequered flag.

    And that chequered flag was first waved at graham on Sunday, making him the first ever successive winner of the race at silverstone
