FLOODED NEIGHBORHOOD (TWO SHOTS) JAKARTA, INDONESIA (FEBRUARY 21, 2021) (AAVN - ACCESS ALL) SCRIPT In the Indonesian capital Jakarta, heavy rainfall caused severe flooding in several areas across the city, forcing thousands of people to flee their homes on Sunday (Feb. 21) The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) has predicted that the entire Jakarta area will still have the potential to face with heavy rains for the next week. "For this reason, residents are advised to remain vigilant about the potential flooding that could occur," said BMKG in a press statement on Saturday, (Feb. 20). According to the statement, Indonesia’s National Search and Rescue Agency, Basarnas evacuated around total of 1,722 members of 514 families from South Jakarta and East Jakarta after floodwaters reached a height of 1.8 meters in several areas. The Indonesian News Agency ANTARA said "Floods triggered by incessant heavy rain in Jakarta on Saturday claimed five lives comprising one elderly man and four children," quoting the capital city's disaster mitigation office (BPBD) . The Jakarta authorities called for assistance as flood victims still needed more relief aid such as food, drinking waters, medic kits, family kits, mattresses, blankets and masks. Anadolu Agency Video News (AAVN) videoed flooded streets and people on rubber boats being evacuated by rescuers. Indonesia has a tropical climate characterized by heavy rainfall, high humidity, high temperature, and low winds. The wet season is from November to March, the dry season from April to October. Rainfall in lowland areas averages 180–320 cm (70–125 in) annually, increasing with elevation to an average of 610 cm (240 in) in some mountain areas.
