VARIOUS OF EXTINGUISHING EFFORTS AAVN SCRIPT: Over 1,500 people have been evacuated from their homes as of Sunday (July 25) on the Italian island of Sardinia as fires ravaged around 20,000 acres of forestland. The fire, which broke out on Saturday night across the province of Oristano in the western region of the Italian island, has so far spread across 20,000 hectares of land, including forests, olive groves, and cultivated areas, according to Italian Rainews24 tv channel on Sunday. The flames continue to spread due to the strong wind and have not yet been tamed. About 400 people were evacuated in Oristano's Scano Montiferro town amid raging fires. There were other evacuations due to heavy smoke in other small settlements. Due to the difficulty of breathing in the dense smoke, a total of 1500 people have had to leave their homes so far. The blaze has been fought by 7,500 people, including the security forces, fire brigade, forest, and civil defense teams, and volunteers, while approximately 20 aircraft are involved in the efforts. Besides, Italy's civil defense authority called the EU countries for helping to tame fires. "The mechanism for requesting fire extinguishing equipment from abroad has been activated. Two are on their way from France, which I officially thank," Italian Foreign Minister Luigi Di Maio said on Facebook Sardinia President Christian Solinas said that it is not possible to determine the damage caused by the fire at the moment and asked for urgent economic support from the central government to compensate for the losses.
