In the parade, the Taliban challenged the world by displaying its military vehicles and weapons, which it used against the coalition forces during the 20 years-long war. Mavlave Abdul Ghafor, the Kandahar Commander of Taliban, said the parade was prepared on the occasion of Independence Day. "Today you will see the parade of different military units here. We congratulate all Afghans on this great victory and success," he said. After the ceremony, which was held for the first time by the Taliban, the group's supporters came together in a huge meeting. In the meeting, the new governor of Kandahar, appointed by the Taliban, addressed the attendees.
