- Story Text: On their way to work on Thursday (July 25), two days after the royal baby was born, Londoners were still surrounded by newspaper headlines on the happy event.
The story had moved on now to the baby's name, announced on Wednesday (July 24). Britain's future king was named Prince George Alexander Louis.
The name was announced on Wednesday evening after the Queen paid her first visit to see the newest addition to the royal family at Kensington Palace, the official London residence of The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.
As people around Trafalgar Square, just down the road from Buckingham Palace went about their business, some took a couple of minutes to give their thoughts on a name, that had Brits guessing wildly and topped the betting boards.
Bhavna Edwards, who works at The National Audit Office said she had a feeling George was going to be the one: "I thought they would give Prince George because of a tribute to The Queen's father and it just sounds regal. I think it's a very nice mature name for a future king."
Floor Polisher Ngombo Papy had some trouble with the number of names: "George Alexander Louis, yeah it's good, but I don't know it's too much name. I don't know, too much, but George Alexander Louis and Cambridge as well, how many names? But, it's good I like it."
Other members of the public however were less inclined to really care about the whole royal baby event: "To be honest with you. I really don't care. Fed up with the whole thing." said one.
Digital Advertiser, Glen Calverts said the whole hype wasn't really a British thing: "I think it is. Not for English people because obviously we don't really care that much but the tourists love it. We have a girl at work and she went, an American girl, and she went down there outside Buckingham Palace when it was occurring. So we can't understand that, but they obviously love it. So yeah, great for tourism.
For now, Prince George is safely tucked away with his parents and the UK is slowly getting back to business as normal. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
