- Story Text: Visiting French Communist Party leader, M. Georges Marchais, attended a welcoming rally sponsored by the Japan Communist Party (JCP) on Thursday evening (8 April).
Mr. Marchais, accompanied by his wife and a three-member delegation, that included the party's chief spokesman for international affairs, M. Jean Kanapa, arrived in Tokyo last Sunday (4 April) for a seven-day visit made at the invitation of the Japan Communist Party. During his stay in Japan, M. Marchais held talks with JCP officials regarding the problems in creating a united communist front. He also visited the ancient capital of Kyoto and Japan's second largest city, Osaka.
The French Communist Party delegation had been invited to Japan as part of the JCP's "diplomacy campaign". M. Marchais' visit closely follows that of Mr. Santiago Carrillo, the Spanish Communist Party leader, who arrived in japan at the end of March.
Since the summer of 1972, the JCP has carried out frequent exchanges with the Communist parties of Western Europe. The JCP has indicated it wants to establish strong ties with the Communist parties of Western Europe in order to avoid isolation within the international Communist movement.
