"The personnel of a motorized infantry formation of the Eastern Military District’s combined arms army involved in an inspection of the Union State’s Response Force have completed the deployment of a field camp at the Brestsky training ground in Belarus," the ministry said in a statement. All necessary facilities for the personnel’s comfortable living in field conditions including tents, mess rooms, bathing laundry, cultural and leisure services and medical posts have been provided for the soldiers. Three hot meals a day have been arranged for servicemen as well. “In the exercise area, combat vehicle fleets are equipped to accommodate weapons and military equipment with repair and refueling points, fuel and lubricants and ammunition depots,” added the statement. Last week, Russia deployed Su-35S fighter jets to Belarus for a military drill, the Russian Defense Ministry announced. The ministry said the aircraft will take part in the combat readiness check of the Union State – an organization comprising Russia and Belarus – without specifying how many planes will take part in the drill. The country also sent two S-400 air defense systems to Belarus with the same purpose – to take part in the joint combat readiness check. The combat readiness check has two phases, with the first to last until Feb. 9, during which troops will be redeployed to Belarus and a joint military group will be created to protect important state and military facilities, as well as the air border. The second phase – a joint exercise called Allied Determination 2022 – will last until Feb. 20. It will involve work on issues of suppressing and repelling external aggression, protecting the interests of the Union State, as well as countering terrorism. Russia is seeking to increase its troop presence in Belarus six-fold by early February to 30,000 armed forces, the US said on Monday during a heated UN Security Council session on simmering Ukraine tensions.
