AAVN SCRIPT: A "car-free day" event was organized in Bogota, Colombia, on Thursday (Feb. 1). This event, in which approximately 1,850,000 cars and 430,000 motorcycles were taken off the road, was the first car-free day in Bogota in 2024. A car-free day is an experience in which motorized vehicles stop circulating in Colombian cities. The event aims to reduce carbon emissions and improve transportation, preventing traffic jams by reducing the number of cars on the roads. This action aims not only to make Bogota one of the first cities in the world where car traffic slows down but also to try to reduce air pollution levels from forest fires in the eastern hills. Every year, cities across the globe celebrate World Car-Free Day, encouraging motorists to give up their cars for a day. The event highlights the numerous benefits of going car-free to citizens—including reduced air pollution and promoting walking in a safer environment.
