ISRAELI PRIME MINISTER BENJAMIN NETANYAHU AND ARGENTINA PRESIDENT JAVIER MILEI AT JOINT PRESS CONFERENCE 2. (SOUNDBITE) (English) NETANYAHU SAYING: “Well, I'm delighted to welcome you, President, Milei, and your delegation to Israel. You're a great friend of the Jewish state. We are delighted with your decision to recognize Jerusalem as Israel's capital, to move your diplomatic post there, and also, of course, an embassy. I have to say that we had a conversation now discussing free markets. This is something that we both championed. You are leading this in Argentina. We have led this in Israel. But I think that we can do a lot more together. We share the desire for prosperity, security and peace. We know that the greatest challenge to peace in our area, but also in yours, is Iran. We appreciate the cooperation that we're doing in the field of security and diplomacy. Your stalwart support for Israel in so many forms. It's deeply, deeply appreciated. Welcome to Jerusalem. Welcome, friend.” 3. VARIOUS OF DELEGATES MEETING 4. VARIOUS OF MILEI AND NETANYAHU MEETING AAVN SCRIPT: Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu thanked the newly-elected Argentinian President Javier Milei during a press conference in Jerusalem on Wednesday (Feb. 7) for "recognizing Jerusalem as the Israeli capital and deciding to move their embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem." Israeli Prime Minister identified Iran as the "greatest challenge to peace in the region" for both countries. Milei expressed his country's intention to recognize Hamas as a terrorist organization to Netanyahu. Earlier, Israel said Tuesday (Feb. 6) that Argentinian President Javier Milei has pledged to move his country’s embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem. Milei arrived in Israel on Tuesday for his first official visit to the country since he assumed office in December. He was welcomed by Israeli Foreign Minister Israel Katz upon arrival at Ben Gurion Airport. Milei is set to visit the Western Wall [Al-Buraq Wall] of the Al-Aqsa Mosque complex in occupied East Jerusalem during his visit. "I congratulate my friend, Argentine President Javier Milei, on the decision to move the embassy to Jerusalem,” Israel’s far-right National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir said on X. Jerusalem remains at the heart of the decades-long Middle East conflict, with Palestinians insisting that East Jerusalem – illegally occupied by Israel since 1967 – should serve as the capital of a Palestinian state. Very few countries have moved their embassies from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, including the US, Kosovo, Guatemala, Honduras, and Papua New Guinea.
