Nigeria and South Africa met in the semi-final of the 34th African Cup of Nations organized by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) in Ivory Coast this year. Nigeria took a 1-0 lead in the 67th minute with William Troost-Ekong's goal from a penalty. South Africa evened the score 1-1 with Teboho Mokoena's penalty goal in the 90th minute. After the normal and extra time periods ended in a 1-1 draw, Nigeria, won 4-2 in the penalty shootout and made it to the final. During the match, South Africa's Gomolemo Kekana received a red card in the 115th minute. Fenerbahce's player Bright Osayi-Samuel, starting the match in the first 11 for Nigeria, was replaced by Kasımpasa's Kenneth Omeruo in the 120+2nd minute. The winner of the other semi-final match between Ivory Coast and the Democratic Republic of Congo will be Nigeria's opponent in the final.
