MEMBER OF WALK FOR FREEDOM GROUP, TESS SPEAKING (French) AAVN SCRIPT: AAVN SCRIPT: On Saturday (April 6), near the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Paris, supporters of Palestine started a hunger strike for Gaza, which is under attack by Israel. The demonstrators, carrying Palestinian flags as well as banners with “End Apartheid” and “Stop Violating International Law” written on them, chanted slogans such as “Stop the genocide,” “Israel is a killer, Macron (President of France) is an accomplice,” and “Stop the massacre of the Palestinian people.” The demonstrators lined up side by side wearing white t-shirts with the letters spelling “Genocide,” while some activists covered their ears or mouths with their own hands. Some protesters also lay down on the ground in protest, representing Palestinians who lost their lives during Israel's attacks in Gaza. Small shrouds with red paint, representing the deceased babies in Gaza, were laid on the ground during the demonstration. The organizers of the protest also initiated a hunger strike for Gaza. Tess, a member of the Walk for Freedom group who did not provide her last name, stated to Anadolu that 10 people have started a hunger strike for the people of Gaza, who have been dying of hunger for about 6 months. Tess stated that they are carrying out this “symbolic action” for those who died in Gaza and for the people under blockade, claiming that Israel deliberately starves the people of Gaza. “Today we are in front of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to condemn France's complicity. France continues to export bullets and weapons to Israel,” She said. Tess said that her country has not imposed sanctions against Israel so far. Pointing out that the International Court of Justice has announced the risk of serious genocide in Gaza, Tess explained that they will continue the hunger strike in front of the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs for 3 days. She expressed their demand for France to impose sanctions against Israel, to bring French-Israeli soldiers to justice, and to ensure that humanitarian aid to Gaza is not blocked. Israel has waged a deadly military offensive on the Gaza Strip since a cross-border attack in early October by the Palestinian group, Hamas, killed less than 1,200 people. More than 33,100 Palestinians have since been killed and over 75,800 injured amid mass destruction and shortages of necessities. Israel has also imposed a crippling blockade on the Gaza Strip, leaving its population, particularly residents of northern Gaza, on the verge of starvation. The Israeli war has pushed 85% of Gaza’s population into internal displacement amid acute shortages of food, clean water, and medicine, while 60% of the enclave's infrastructure has been damaged or destroyed, according to the UN. Israel is accused of genocide at the International Court of Justice, which last week asked it to do more to prevent famine in Gaza.
