- Title: First solar eclipse of 2024 observed in Canada
- Date: 8th April 2024
- Summary: First solar eclipse of 2024 observed in Canada SHOTLIST: MONTREAL, CANADA (APRIL 8, 2024) (AAVN – ACCESS ALL) 1. FOOTAGE OF SOLAR ECLIPSE IN MONTREAL AAVN SCRIPT: A rare total solar eclipse observed in Montreal, Canada on Monday (April 8). During the early afternoon hours, a path of totality swept across southeast Oklahoma and west-central Arkansas from southwest to northeast. Total solar eclipses happen when the Moon moves between the Sun and Earth, creating a shadow on the Earth's surface. On average, total solar eclipses occur somewhere on Earth every 18 months. However, due to the Moon's relatively small diameter compared to Earth (roughly the width of Australia), it casts a limited shadow. As a result, any specific location on Earth is estimated to experience a total solar eclipse only once every 360 to 410 years on average.
