- Summary: WFP resumes food aid distribution in Gaza amid Israel's ongoing attacks SHOTLIST: GAZA, PALESTINE (APRIL 17, 2024) (AAVN - ACCESS ALL) 1. VARIOUS OF AID WORKERS DISTRIBUTING CANNED FOOD AAVN SCRIPT: The World Food Programme (WFP) has resumed food aid distribution in a shelter center of Gaza, Palestine on Wednesday (April 17) amid Israel's ongoing attacks. Israel has waged a military offensive on Gaza since a cross-border attack by the Palestinian group Hamas last October, which killed nearly 1,200 people. WFP is providing desperately needed food to 1.45 million of the population in Gaza each month, distributing ready-to-eat food parcels, hot meals, wheat flour and specialized products to stave off malnutrition in Palestine. WFP said in a statement that they delivered around 900 mt of food via six convoys into northern Gaza in March, "utilizing a new route that has increased the frequency of deliveries. WFP also conducted five airdrops carrying 20 mt of food." More than 33,800 Palestinians have since been killed and 76,600 others injured amid mass destruction and shortages of necessities. Israel has also imposed a crippling blockade on the seaside enclave, leaving its population, particularly residents of northern Gaza, on the verge of starvation. The war has pushed 85% of Gaza’s population into internal displacement amid acute shortages of food, clean water and medicine, while much of the enclave's infrastructure has been damaged or destroyed. Israel is accused of genocide at the International Court of Justice (ICJ), which in January issued an interim ruling that ordered it to stop genocidal acts and take measures to guarantee that humanitarian assistance is provided to civilians in Gaza.
