- Summary: Polish University students stage Pro-Palestinian protest at Jagiellonian University SHOTLIST KRAKOW, POLAND (MAY 15, 2024) (AAVN - ACCESS ALL) 1. VARIOUS OF JAGIELLONIAN UNIVERSITY STUDENTS STAGING PRO-PALESTINIAN PROTEST IN KRAKOW AAVN SCRIPT Jagiellonian University students stage a pro-Palestinian protest as they demand the University Rector to cut academic ties with Israeli Universities on May 15, 2024 in Krakow, Poland. Holding a giant Palestinian flag and carrying banners bearing messages such as "Stop Genocide" and "Bombing hospitals, killing children, refusing human rights are not equal to self defence", the students voiced chants of "Free free Palestine, free free Gaza," "From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free." The protest comes after a huge global movement by university students demanding their universities cut ties with Israeli academies due to the ongoing Israel war on Gaza. Students at universities around the world are gathering on their campuses in demonstrations against Israel’s attacks on Gaza, which started last month at New York's Columbia University. The protests have served as a flashpoint for a wider movement to protest Israel’s genocidal war on Gaza. At least 35,180 Palestinians, mostly women and children, have been killed amid Israel's war on the besieged Gaza Strip, while over 79,000 others have been injured, according to Palestinian health authorities. A cross-border attack by the Palestinian group Hamas on Israel that precipitated the current war killed about 1,200 people. More than seven months into the conflict, vast swathes of Gaza lay in ruins amid a crippling blockade of food, clean water and medicine. Israel stands accused of genocide at the International Court of Justice. An interim ruling in January said it is "plausible" that Tel Aviv is committing genocide in Gaza, ordering it to stop such acts and take measures to guarantee that humanitarian assistance is provided to civilians in the enclave.
