- Story Text: THE COMMISSIONER FOR INDUSTRIES IN GHANA, MR. J.V.L. PHILLIPS, HAS MADE HIS FIRST INSPECTION OF THE STATE TEXTILE CORPORATION AT TEMA SINCE THE PLANT'S OPERATION WAS TAKEN OVER BY AN ALL-GHANAIAN CREW. HE SAID LATER THAT THE FACTORY HAD SOLVED ITS INITIAL PROBLEMS AND THAT ITS OUTPUT WAS OF HIGH QUALITY.
ON THE TOUR WITH THE COMMISSIONER WAS THE PRINCIPAL SECRETARY OF THE MINISTRY OF INDUSTRIES, MR. E.R. HAYFORD; AND THE EXECUTIVE SECRETARY OF THE STATE ENTERPRISES SECRETARIAT, MR. S.K. QUARTEY. THE TEMA PLANT SUPPLIES TEXTILES TO MANY OF THE BIG COMPANIES IN THE AREA.
AFTER TOURING THE TEMA PLANT, WITH THE FACTORY MANAGER MR. PHILLIPS VISITED FELIX NKUAKOTSE THE GHANA TEXTILE MANUFACTURING COMPANY, WHICH IS A PRIVATE ORGANISATION WITH 51 PER CENT GOVERNMENT PARTICIPATION. THE MANAGING DIRECTOR, MR. J.M. TIDDY, TOLD THE COMMISSIONER THE FACTORY WAS IN ITS EXPERIMENTAL STAGE BUT IT WAS HOPED IT WOULD SOON REACH FULL PRODUCTION.
THERE ARE THREE TEXTILE FACTORIES IN TEMA, AND ONE OF THESE IS A CHINESE ENTERPRISE. MR. PHILLIPS SAW THIS FACTORY WITH THE COMPANY DIRECTOR, MR. P.K. ANIN-ADDO. TOM COMPLETE HIS DAY'S INSPECTION, MR. PHILLIPS VISITED THE IRANI FLOUR MILL, WITH ITS MANAGING DIRECTOR, MR. ANTONY IRANI, AND THE COMPANY'S PUBLIC RELATIONS OFFICER, MR. M. AWOONOR-WILLIAMS. THE FACTORY PRODUCES 2500 BAGS OF FLOUR EACH DAY AND EXPORTS LARGE QUANTITIES TO WEST GERMANY.
