- Story Text: Homes and streets remained flooded in western France in and around the city of Rennes on Tuesday (January 28) after Storm Herminia brought heavy rainfall to the region over the weekend.
Hundreds of residents have been evacuated from their homes but no casualties have been reported, but the flooding is expected to intensify.
"Let's say that it (the situation) is a bit worrisome since we have large-scale flooding over a very large part of the department, whereas usually, it is more localised," said Junior Minister for Rural Affairs, Francois Gatel. "We can assume that the phenomenon will be a bit more significant downstream at the end of the week."
France's national weather agency on Monday (January 27) placed the Ile-et-Vilaine department, in Brittany, on red alert due to the risk of major flooding.
The Morbihan and Loire-Atlantique departments were added to the list on Tuesday.
