- Story Text: With Feb. 6 marking one year to go until the Milano-Cortina 2026 winter Olympics, Italian ski resorts in the Dolomites are getting ready to co-host the event, marking the return of the Games to a traditional European venue for the first time in two decades.
Cortina and Milan, Italy’s largest northern city—located more than 400 kilometres apart—will serve as the primary hosts of the February 6–22 Games, with five additional venues across northern Italy before the Closing Ceremony in Verona.
The event will span a wide geographical area, blending urban and alpine settings. Milan will host the Opening Ceremony at the iconic San Siro Stadium, along with events such as figure skating, ice hockey, and speed skating at venues including the Mediolanum Forum and the newly constructed PalaItalia Santa Giulia.
The Closing Ceremony will take place at the historic Verona Arena, a Roman amphitheater dating back to the first century.
In the mountains, Cortina d’Ampezzo—host of the 1956 Winter Olympics—will stage Alpine skiing events on the Tofane slopes and sliding sports at the redeveloped Cortina Sliding Centre. Bormio’s Stelvio course will feature men’s downhill skiing, while Livigno will host snowboard and freestyle skiing competitions.
Further north, the Anterselva Biathlon Centre will host biathlon events, with ski jumping and Nordic combined competitions in Predazzo, and cross-country skiing in Tesero.
