- Story Text: The scorching summer temperatures in Rio de Janeiro have driven residents and tourists to seek new ways to cool off, with many seen opting for a nighttime beach visit over air conditioning on Thursday (February 6).
Families, friends, and couples gathered by the beach's shores on Thursday to enjoy the cool breeze and the illuminated beachfront.
According to locals, the ocean has become a refuge from the oppressive heat, offering a refreshing alternative to the city's sweltering nights, and hundreds have been diving into the warm waters of Rio's beaches, such as Arpoador and Ipanema, even after sunset.
Temperatures have been forecast to hit a high of 39 degrees Celsius (102 degrees Fahrenheit) on Thursday and 38 degrees Celsius (100 degrees Fahrenheit) the following day.
With local weather forecasts predicting the intense heat to continue, this nighttime beach trend is expected to persist as a novel way to enjoy Rio's summer.
