- Story Text:The Mexican National Guard conducted extensive patrols across the United States and Mexico border on Wednesday (January 5) amid growing migration concerns.
Soldiers were seen patrolling in vehicles and on foot, searching through bushes and monitoring key border areas. However, the increased security measures have drawn criticism from migrant advocates and those seeking refuge.
In local shelters, migrants shared their struggles and aspirations for legal entry into the United States. Maria Elena, a Mexican migrant, emphasized their commitment to legal immigration: "We want to do things the right way. We're asking Donald Trump to let us in legally."
Mexico has deployed thousands of soldiers on the border this week as part of an agreement that halted U.S. tariffs on Mexican imports.
The plan to eventually deploy 10,000 Mexican soldiers forms part of a deal announced on Monday (February 3) under which U.S. President Donald Trump paused his threat of 25% tariffs on Mexican imports.
