Designer Christian Siriano revealed his Fall/Winter collection at New York Fashion Week on Thursday (February 6), drawing inspiration from the automotive world.
The collection was filled with nods to aerodynamic designs and metal-like hues, but with a Siriano flare.
“We have like a really cool, laminated metallics that really feel like paint strips in a way. We have these really beautiful kind of oil slick jerseys, embroideries that feel kind of like parts in a way, but in the most beautiful romantic way I could do,” explained Siriano.
The show, featuring nearly 70 looks, was a blend of menswear and women's fashion, with each piece mimicking the lines and embossed tracks of a car.
“The whole inspiration was kind of inspired by a kind of connection between sexy kind of automotive design and clothing. So the red kind of symbolizes for me, you know, that iconic red car, that iconic red dress on a red carpet and how those kind of go together.”
Siriano filled the runway space with the color red and a red Toyota in order for guests to feel transported to a fantasy land and forget any troubles they might have.
The show was a symphony of contrasts, from wide-legged pants with a cut-out back to oil-slick jersey embroideries that felt like car parts.
Sequins shimmered while oversized details on shoulders and hips created bold moments.
As the show progressed, the music transitioned from upbeat house to classical-like music which ushered in Siriano's formal aesthetic with fun shapes.
New York Fashion Week will run until February 11th with nearly 60 designers showing new collection throughout the city.
