  • Story Text: Indian main opposition party leader on Friday (January 21) met with senior Chinese leader on his five-day official visit to the Communist State.
    Delegates of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) led by Nitin Gadkari was greeted by Li Changchun, one of the nine members of China's powerful Communist Party's Politburo, in Great Hall of People.
    Li said he hopes to "strengthen trusts between the two countries, deepen interaction, bolster international cooperation and promote harmony in Asia", China's state television quoted him as saying. It didn't elaborate further on the meeting.
    Gadkari is in China to alter his party's ties with China's Communist Party, but his party's conservative stance would make it difficult for the visit to be fruitful, according to an Indian local media.
    He is expected to visit Shanghai on Saturday (January 22).
