- Story Text: Chinese scientists put on display the model of a lunar roving vehicle on Saturday (March 31, 2007) in a space research centre in Shanghai.
The vehicle, though a demo version after three year's research, is designed to roam around the moon surface for collecting information.
In year 2006, China launched its moon-landing plan, "Chang E" Lunar Exploration Programme -- "Chang E" is a beautiful woman in Chinese legendary believed to have flown to the moon.
Chinese officials said that China's moon exploration programme included a planned lunar fly-by in 2007, a soft landing in 2012 and the return of lunar samples by 2017.
China's leading space vehicle expert predicts the nation will be able to send astronauts to the moon within 15 years.
China's space programme has moved ahead in the last several years. In 2003, China put a man in space, becoming only the third country to do so, after the United States and the Soviet Union, and launched a second manned space flight in 2005.
Western countries have been worried about China's space ambition after a Chinese anti-satellite missile was spotted in early January, though China said it opposed to arms races in outer space. - Copyright Holder: CCTV (China) - NO RESALE MAINLAND CHINA
