Rescue operation is still underway as serious floods across central and southern China continued, state media reported on Wednesday (July 6).
Floods in central Hubei province have affected more than 10 million people during the last week, State broadcaster CCTV quoted local government as saying, adding that more torrential rain was forecast for Thursday (July 7) in the eastern part of the province.
CCTV also showed footage of rescuers transferring people who were trapped in a residential building by torrential flooding in Wuhan city.
In eastern Jiangsu province, farmland and buildings were inundated in some areas, CCTV said. Rescuers were fixing a dyke breach, which was over 30 metres in width, along Changdang lake, it added.
Chinese Premier Li Keqiang travelled on Tuesday (July 5) to Anhui, one of the hardest-hit provinces, where he met residents and encouraged officials to do everything they could to protect lives and livelihoods.
Rescuers went to Qianshan county to evacuate some 68 people from flooded village, CCTV said. - Copyright Holder: CCTV (China)
