- Story Text: Heavy fog blankets a large part of northern China, grounding flights and shutting down major highways, state media reports
Dense fog shrouded a large part of northern China on Tuesday (January 22), forcing authorities to ground flights and close major highways, state media reported.
CCTV said in Hebei province, 22 out of its 27 major highways were closed due to low visibility, and 17 counties reported visibility of no more than 50 metres (164 feet).
Flights in the provincial capital Shijiazhuang city and neighbouring Tianjin municipality, were all cancelled.
Meteorological authorities warned the fog, partially caused by snow and cold weather, could continue through Wednesday (January 23). - Copyright Holder: CCTV (China) - NO RESALE MAINLAND CHINA
