- Story Text: Rescue teams worked around the clock in a search for survivors on Wednesday (July 28) after a landslide left at least 20 people missing in mountainous Sichuan province in the southwest, state media reported.
The rescuers had discovered one person by Wednesday, state television reported, but it did not say whether the person had survived the landslide which hit Hanyuan county on Tuesday (July 17).
Rescue teams have been dispatched to flooded regions across China to evacuate stranded residents and deliver much-needed supplies, travelling by boat through flooded streets and fields, state television CCTV showed.
More than 800 people are reported to have died, with hundreds of others still missing, and over 40 million affected as floods and landslides wreak havoc in China this year and more rains are forecast to fall this week.
China's Premier Wen Jiabao called for local officials to prepare themselves for further floods in the days to come and called the flood-control situation "critical" in a tour of flood-damaged areas over the weekend.
China typically faces heavy rains and flooding at this time of year, but damage and casualties this season have been worse than usual. - Copyright Holder: CCTV (China) - NO RESALE MAINLAND CHINA
