- Story Text: Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa met Chinese President Xi Jinping on Tuesday (May 28), to strengthen economic and local-level exchanges, Chinese state media reported.
Chinese state broadcaster CCTV showed Villaraigosa and Xi shaking hands before sitting down to a meeting with both U.S. and Chinese delegations.
Xi visited Los Angeles in February last year to boost trade ties between Beijing and Los Angeles, the state-run Xinhua news agency said.
This trip is one of Villaragosa's last visits abroad before his term in officein July.
California Governor Jerry Brown toured China last April, hoping to boost Chinese investment in his state.
Xi and U.S President Barack Obama are expected to hold their first meeting since Xi became president in March when they sit down for a June 7-8 summit in Rancho Mirage, California. They are expected to hold talks on bilateral, regional and global issues. - Copyright Holder: CCTV
