- Story Text: One of the worst snow storms in 30 years hit China's northern Inner Mongolian Autonomous Region, while early snow and frost blanketed roads with thick snow and disrupting transportation across northeastern provinces, Chinese state television reported on Saturday (November 27).
Four towns in Hinggan Prefecture, a pasture region in the northeastern part of the Inner Mongolia have been seeing extreme weather conditions since last Saturday (November 20), China's state news agency Xinhua said.
"The goats are so thin and cold that they'll soon die. It's hard for them to climb mountains. There's nothing to eat. Snow has started falling again," Inner Mongolian herdsman, Meng He told CCTV.
Arriving 40 days earlier than usual, the cold front has already killed 757 livestock and affected 50,000 inhabitants and damaged 6,667 hectares of grassland, according to Xinhua.
Overnight snow has also brought temperatures down in northeast China, forcing airports and highways to close, CCTV said.
Temperatures are expected to continue to drop for the next three days in Jilin and Heilongjiang province, reaching as low as minus 20 degrees celsius next Monday (November 29). - Copyright Holder: CCTV (China) - NO RESALE MAINLAND CHINA
