- Story Text: A teenage girl saved her friend from a speeding van before it drove straight into her and left her injured last Wednesday (January 10) in northeastern China's Heilongjiang Province, state television reported.
Surveillance video obtained by state television showed the 15-year-old girl in a green jacket, Guo Xiaoqi grabbing her classmate Li Qiaoqiao by arm and yanking her away before the van hit her.
The impact sent Guo flying for a few metres outside the school gates. The white van appeared to hesitate for a second before driving off.
Passers-by and students tended to an injured Guo before she was sent to the hospital, state media reported, adding that she was in a stable condition.
A doctor at the local hospital said Guo suffered from fractures on her pelvic bone, as well as injuries on her face, ears and teeth.
Guo said she had no time to think when the accident happened.
"I didn't think much. I only thought that I couldn't let Li Qiaoqiao get hurt because she is my good friend. So I pulled her away," Guo said from her hospital bed.
State television made no mention of a police investigation or the van's whereabouts, nor did it confirm the accident as a hit-and-run.
In October 2011, the death of a two-year-old Chinese girl run over by two different vehicles and ignored by passersby sparked a public uproar over what was called a 'moral numbness' seeping through society. - Copyright Holder: CCTV (China) - NO RESALE MAINLAND CHINA
