  • Story Text: Ten-year-old panda Yingmei celebrated her 10th birthday in a zoo in eastern China's Yangzhou City on Friday (April 13).
    Zoo workers first gave Yingmei a shower, then delivered the cage out into the fields to meet the public.
    Born and raised in China's Sichuan Province, Yingmei was sent to Yangzhou's Zhuyuwan Zoo a year ago, and became the zoo's most popular draw, said CCTV.
    A zoo worker said Yingmei is healthy and gaining weight after consuming approximately nine tons of bamboo in the past year.
    "Yingmei has been living in Yangzhou zoo for a year. We just weighed her, and she has gained two kilograms," said the worker.
    Children were invited to sing "Happy Birthday" and feed apple slices to the panda.
    The furry animal also enjoyed the custom-made birthday cake.
    "I am a little scared, but this is a rare opportunity, so I am very happy," a schoolboy said.
    Pandas have an average life span of 25 years, and Yingmei is currently in her 30s in human years, according to CCTV.
