Hi, everybody. How are you? It's like I'm running for something." JOURNALIST: "You should!" CLOONEY: "Yeah, exactly. So it's our very subtle, welcome to this beautiful day in sunny New York and our very subtle billboard out in front of the Winter Garden Theatre. We're trying to bring smoking back - I think that that's our main goal in this." MARQUEE WITH A PHOTOGRAPH OF CLOONEY HOLDING A CIGARETTE (SOUNDBITE) (English) "GOOD NIGHT, AND GOOD LUCK" STAR AND CO-WRITER, GEORGE CLOONEY, AND "GOOD NIGHT, AND GOOD LUCK" CO-WRITER, GRANT HESLOV, SAYING: CLOONEY: "We're very excited to be doing this play. We're excited to be here. I want to introduce a couple of people here who are responsible for the play being here in general. First is my partner for 40 years, Grant Heslov. Grant, come on up here and say hi." HESLOV: "Hi." CLOONEY: "That's it. That's all you get to say, Grant. And the fun part about this is we get to do a play about a subject matter that's very close to our hearts, which is about everything that you guys all do, which is telling the truth and holding truth to power. And so it's a play we're very excited to do - it's not a civics lesson - it's an entertainment and we're very excited to start. We've already started rehearsal, and I'm older by 40 years than everybody else in the play. The director here, David Cromer, please, ladies and gentlemen, David is here, and he's going to tell you what we're really doing." CLOONEY SPEAKING AT LECTERN (SOUNDBITE) (English) "GOOD NIGHT, AND GOOD LUCK" STAR AND CO-WRITER, GEORGE CLOONEY, SAYING: JOURNALIST: "First time on Broadway." CLOONEY: "I know." JOURNALIST: "You are playing a journalist. How wonderful is it to pay homage to your father in this way?" CLOONEY: "Well it's really fun. I mean I haven't done a play in 40 years. The last time I did a play was at the Steppenwolf ('Vicious') in Chicago in 1986, so it's terrifying to me." JOURNALIST: "George Clooney gets nervous?" CLOONEY: "Yes, and I often refer to myself in the third person. Yes, George Clooney gets nervous." JOURNALIST: "Well we're excited. I bet Amal and the kids are excited. Are they going to be moving to New York while you're in the show?" CLOONEY: "They're in New York. We've been here the whole time." JOURNALIST: "What have they been up to?" CLOONEY: "You know, the normal things that children do, which is, apparently you have to educate them, which I was shocked by, but they're in school, so we're having fun. My wife is dealing with me walking around doing lines in the play all day long, so I think she knows it better than me." JOURNALIST: "She can run lines with you, which is great." CLOONEY: "Yeah." JOURNALIST: "Well it is Valentine's Day next week. Do you have any special plans?" CLOONEY: "Yes." JOURNALIST: "I know you're a romantic." CLOONEY: "I have special plans. Why would you ask such a question? She might see this. What would happen then?" JOURNALIST: "Well how about this - Super Bowl is this weekend. Who are you rooting for?" CLOONEY: "Well, I'm a (Cincinnati) Bengals fan, right? So it's very hard for me in anything to root for either of these guys. But I have to root for the AFC (American Football Conference), so I gotta go for Kansas City, because I just have to. If you're an AFC guy, you have to stick with the AFC." JOURNALIST: "And Taylor Swift right?" CLOONEY: "Yes, I'm doing it for Taylor Swift." JOURNALIST: "You're a Swiftie." CLOONEY: "I do like Travis Kelce, he's an unbelievable tight end, so yeah, I mean sure, why not?" JOURNALIST: "And last thing. You are starring with Adam Sandler next in 'Jay Kelly.' First time working together, how excited are you to work with him?" CLOONEY: "Well, I carried him through the whole thing, as you can imagine. He's an up and comer. He's just trying to make it in the business and I'm trying to help him through. It was great. He's a really sweet guy and really gifted and really fun to work with, so we had a great time." JOURNALIST: "You're both legends, so thank you. Can't wait to see that one. Enjoy. Thanks for chatting." Acclaimed film and television actor George Clooney previewed his upcoming Broadway debut in "Good Night, and Good Luck" on Thursday (February 6) and admitted that he feels nervous to step on the stage.
Clooney, a two-time Oscar winner, said he has not done a live theater show since 1986.
"I haven't done a play in 40 years ... so it's terrifying," the actor told reporters in New York. "Yes, George Clooney gets nervous."
Clooney is the co-writer and star of "Good Night, and Good Luck," a play adapted from his 2005 film of the same name about broadcast news legend Edward R. Murrow and his work during the witch hunts of Senator Joseph McCarthy in the 1950s. Clooney is the son of broadcast TV journalist Nick Clooney.
"The fun part about this is we get to do a play about a subject matter that's very close to our hearts ... which is telling the truth," Clooney said.
"Good Night, and Good Luck" runs on Broadway from March 12 to June 8.
