- Story Text: Dining at Berlin's pop-up restaurant Pret a Diner is not just a treat for the hungry it's a fashionable experience.
Finding a place to dine in Berlin during Fashion Week is a tricky quest: You want to be seen in the right spot at the right time. For 35 days fashion people, bohemians, film folk as well as regular citizens can experience temporary treats in an exclusive and very hip and hot location. The German capital's first pop-up restaurant 'Pret a Diner' opened its doors in Berlin's old coin mint just in time for Berlin Fashion Week and will remain open until the last day of this year's film festival, the Berlinale.
"We are from a catering background and since 2004 we have been introducing our collections named Pret a Diner", Pret a Diner founder Klaus Peter Kofler told Reuters on Friday (January 21). "So far it has been relatively elitist for a small group of clients. The idea with the pop-up is to democratise luxury," Kofler added.
Innovative and highly professional first-rate catering and gastronomy experiences on both an international and regional platform have been the creed for Klaus Peter Kofler with his company Kofler & Kompanie which was founded in 1991.
"To democratise luxury to us means combining gourmet kitchen and gourmet chefs with a neighbourhood ambiance to show that good food also works without waiters in livery, palace like buildings or many glasses and silver cutlery on the tables. It makes everything more relaxed and gives it a little more value for money," says Kofler.
The promise of "satisfying all senses" is according to Kofler all about the experience factor - food in a special atmosphere. That is why great attention is being paid to creative dishes, exceptional event spaces and professional handling. "The philosophy of the kitchen, the idea that peaks in the food collection for our clients is the idea to have a kitchen close to nature, close to wilderness with a new look on products that are locally produced. For example, we have a cous cous with cauliflower, we have lamb from a close by area and a rose hip sorbet. So we mainly process local produce," he said.
Kofler regards his services as an "event in an event." The Pret a Diner collection embodies this attitude with "trend shows of a special kind" in which not only the gustatory nerves, but all senses are spoiled through an integrated presentation of current lifestyle, table etiquette and wine in a special atmosphere, claims the company. A concept that proves to be a VIP magnet: "We had many designers and fashion people here in the last couple of days and there will be a few film parties, film people have booked tables. We are only here for 35 days, one has to come now, in six months it will be too late. Also, the kitchen has a very natural finish which is in sync with the current zeitgeist and trend. Accordingly, we have many intellectuals, thinkers but also people from the economy. It is a wild mixture, as you can see tonight," Kofler said.
Mobile kitchens, which are flexibly adaptable to the respective spatial circumstances, are used during the events. So, individual courses of an order of courses can be freshly prepared even for several hundreds of guests.
Bookings can be made over facebook- people interested can request an invitation and will be provided with a login to the Pret a Diner web presence, where they will be able to book a table. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
