VARIOUS OF DETAILS FROM FIRST CONSTITUENT SESSION OF BUNDESTAG / MEMBERS OF PARLIAMENT LISTENING, VOTING AND APPLAUDING SCRIPT The newly formed German Federal Parliament (Bundestag) convened for its first constituent session following the recent elections in Germany. Held 30 days after the elections on February 23, the session marked the official beginning of the 21st legislative term. The session was chaired by Gregor Gysi of the Left Party, the longest-serving member of parliament, and was attended by German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier, former German President Christian Wulff, and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz. In his speech, Gysi stated that Palestinians have the right to their own homeland. He referenced the United Nations (UN) resolution calling for the establishment of a Palestinian state and highlighted that Palestinians are neither Israeli citizens nor citizens of any other country, with their citizenship often unrecognized. Gysi expressed regret over the current Israeli government's stance and the majority in the Israeli parliament (Knesset) rejecting the two-state solution, believing instead that all issues can be resolved through military means. Türkiye’s Ambassador to Berlin, Gokhan Turan, observed the session from the designated diplomats. The session is also expected to include the election of the new Bundestag president.
