- Story Text: She was the only designer at the Berlin Fashion Week who got applause before the show even started: Vivienne Westwood closed the 3rd Berlin Fashion Week with a foudroyant display of joie de vivre.
Smiling models, playfully created dresses and shirts made for a relieved audience that, after four days of serious fashion business, embraced Westwood's fun approach to couture.
"We did a great collection and we had a great show, I think we did. It was happy show, we wanted it to be because fashion is about fun, I think it should be", said Christopher Di Pietro, sales director and so-designer of this spring/summer 2009 collection. "I think a lot of people forgot that. It's become a really big business and with that, a lot of fun has been taken out of it. I think it should be fun. What's not to like about seeing beautiful girls wearing beautiful clothes?"
Standing ovations and raving reviews made the new Anglomania collection a worthy ending to the Berlin Fashion Week that reinterpreted Westwood's iconic shapes for a younger, more casual customer. For Spring/Summer 2009.
Anglomania took its inspiration from Greek antiquity. Draped and column-like dresses made from fabrics ranging from silk to jersey, combining colours from grey to fuchsia.
The outspoken 67-year-old "mother of Punk" has kept her edge since her bondage-inspired creations for the Sex Pistols in the 70s. She has long been considered an "enfant terrible" of the fashion industry, and along with other quirky designers, is considered important in giving fashion its cutting edge.
Westwood herself declined to be interviewed as she credited Di Pietro and Style for the collection. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
