The photograph, taken for the New York Times, shows young Mahmoud Ajjour, a boy who lost both arms while fleeing an Israeli air strike. The haunting image was praised for its emotional depth and journalistic impact, highlighting the devastating effects of the ongoing conflict on civilians. Photographers from Türkiye's Anadolu Ajansı were also among this year's winners, winning awards in several categories for their compelling visual reporting from war zones and crisis-hit regions around the world.
