Representatives from more than 50 diplomatic missions also took part in the memorial event. More than 10 victims were killed and 90 injured in an overnight Russian missile attack that targeted Ukraine’s capital, officials said Thursday. "Rescuers have recovered two more bodies from under the rubble in the Svyatoshynskyi district. We now have 12 dead," Tymur Tkachenko, the head of the Kyiv City Military Administration, said on Telegram. Tkachenko said earlier that 90 victims received varying degrees of injuries from the attack, which took place overnight, noting that at least 12 children were injured. He said the Holosiivskyi, Shevchenkivskyi, Solomyanskyi, Obolonskyi and Desnyanskyi districts in the city were also struck. Ukraine's Air Force claimed that the air defenses downed 48 of 70 missiles, as well as 64 of 145 drones, launched by Russia overnight. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy wrote on X that he instructed Defense Minister Rustem Umerov to immediately contact Kyiv's partners regarding requests to strengthen the country’s air defenses. Zelenskyy said he canceled part of his visit to South Africa. Russia's Defense Ministry said it launched a combined strike on Ukrainian aviation, missile space, engineering and armored industry enterprises, as well as facilities producing rocket fuel and gunpowder. "The goals of the strike were achieved. All the targets were engaged," it said, without elaborating. The attack came as diplomatic efforts on potential peace negotiations between Ukraine and Russia continue.
