- Story Text: Hollywood beauty Liv Tyler is returning to her modeling roots as the new brand ambassador for the denim clothing label, 'G-Star'.
The actress, who began her career as a model at age 14, was star of the G-Star fashion show in New York City on Tuesday (February 16), as the Dutch jeanswear line unveiled its collection for Fall / Winter 2010.
With celebrities such as actress Mena Suvari, and singers Natasha Bedingfield and John Legend in the front row, G-Star showcased a range featuring a kaleidoscope of color including bright yellows, greens and electric blue.
"The whole inspiration for this collection is the coachmen coats and this coat really reflects the sophisticated, authentic, look," G-Star designer Remco De Nijs told Reuters Television, backstage.
Before the show got underway, Tyler at one point seemed a little overwhelmed by all the media attention.
The model-turned-actress-turned model says she's happy to back in the fashion industry, although she fears she looks like a horse in one of her photographs taken for the new G-Star campaign.
"It's because I was looking at this for the first time which is really cool and I opened up to this page and my first thought was hmmm.. it was very horse-like," Tyler laughs, neighing like a horse.
Like most women, the star of 'Stealing Beauty', says she finds buying swimwear, or finding the perfect pair of jeans, frustrating.
"I hate.. I think that both of those things and those really bright lights in a changing room are not very pleasant, fun experiences, that's for sure," Tyler says.
"It's kind of tricky, isn't it? Jeans are so interesting because there are so many different brands of jean and everyone is so completely different. When you sort of find one that suits you well and that works for you, you want to buy up a million pairs of them."
Tyler, daughter of Aerosmith frontman, Steve Tyler, has had a relatively low profile in recent years. The actress has just finished working on her new film 'Super'. Her last major films included the 2001-2003 'Lord of the Rings' trilogy and 'The Incredible Hulk,' which she filmed in 2008. The statuesque 32 year old says although her heart will always be in acting, she's at home in the world of fashion.
"God I love my life, I feel really grateful and blessed I get to do the work that I do. I really enjoy it tremendously and I would never want to pick one over the other because I enjoy both parts of it, and both worlds so much and I always really enjoyed making films and my heart is definitely in that process. But I also really love the fashion industry because I grew up in it and I feel really lucky to be invited into it. It's such a sort of, little club, I guess, in a way so I'm fascinated by it and I enjoy watching it," Tyler says.
With Tyler as its brand ambassador, G-Star hopes to lift the company's profile in the United States. The label says it plans to open 50 free-standing stores in America. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
