- Story Text: Issey Miyake designer Dai Fujiwara drew upon mathematics for his Paris Fashion Week show on Friday (March 5).
"We just felt that art exists also in the mathematic world, the scientific world. So next year probably... the people want to know more about where art exists, not only painting and drawing and also to see the magazine, so mathematics is coming very very close to art. So it's time to take this energy for fashion," Fujiwara told Reuters Television.
Fujiwara was advised by American topology expert Professor William Thurston of Cornell University, who was present at the show at the Louvre Carousel, after writing to him for help with a collection based upon the manipulation of shape and surface. The designs were based upon twisting, crossing, knotting and draping in both clothing and accessories.
Outfits incorporated layered coloured scarves and interlinked necklace designs, with tube piping, twisted hems and collars and plays on shape and volume all worked into the Paris pieces. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
