- Story Text: As September 11 (Monday) dawned on New York City's Bryant Park, it was fashion as usual at the white tents. The fourth day of Fashion Week started with designer Carolina Herrera's Spring Summer 2007 presentation.
Backstage, as models got ready, Herrera gave a string of interviews.
The designer said that for this collection, she was inspired by independent and sophisticated women and that she wanted to accent femininity, while letting the dresses offer simplicity and ease.
"It's all about the femininity, it's all about the simplicity, it's about the effortless chic and it's about the woman who's going to wear these clothes. And its very feminine, of course it is," said Herrera.
One of Herrera's models, Alexandra Tomlinson, said backstage that she really enjoyed modeling for Herrera as the clothes were always so "elegant."
"Oh my god, they're absolutely gorgeous, elegant, sophisticated, like I can't say enough of them. Gorgeous," gushed Tomlinson.
As models took to the runway to flaunt Herrera designs, what emerged were a lot of soft and flowing dresses, while the palette was filled by blood orange, shell, rouge, chalk and black.
The collection used soft shapes, gentle silhouettes and light fabrics, with a lot of accent on the waist.
Herrera is known to create classic garments and it appeared that she stuck to her hallmark with this collection as well.
Designer Luca Orlandi, who displayed his Spring Summer 2007 collection in the afternoon, also gave "femininity" major play in his designs although he said that the nature of "femininity" was an evolution of prior years. The Orlandi color palette was dominated by white, black and tomato red. The designer said that he wanted to keep the colors simple, while he focused on the silhouette and volume. As for fabrics, linen and satin were used liberally.
Orlandi, who has Italian roots, said he loves to show in New York and that he thinks his collection combines two worlds -- Italy, where the manufacturing of his fabric and materials is done and New York, where he lives and finds inspiration.
But Orlandi's petite confections were not the only stars on the runway, before the show opened, paparazzi flocked around celebrities like actress Carmen Elektra, rapper Kanye West and socialite and now singer, Paris Hilton. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
