- Story Text: Michael Kors showed his true colours at the runway show for his Spring 2009 collection, which was inspired by all things American from the presidential election to the U.S. athletes at the Olympics. Vibrant splashes of red, white and blue marched down the runway with all-american music like the Beach Boys's "Good Vibrations" blaring in the background.
"Yeah, maybe I'm waving the flag a bit here and it doesn't matter if you're a Republican or a Democrat, we've got the colour for you," said Michael Kors backstage before the show. "And then if you're somewhere in the middle, there's a lot of fabulous sunshine yellow also."
Besides the solid primary colours there were plenty of flashy patterns like large polka-dots, gingham and stripes. The collection had a decidedly classic feel reminiscent of the late 1940s and 50s.
"I think it's fun to tweak the classics and in today's economy I think you don't want something too classic because you're kind of like 'I have that'. And then on the other side of the coin if it's so out there, you're like 'I'm not investing in that. I'll wear it for a minute.' So these are the kind of clothes that I think feel special but still have some kind of long shelf life to them," said Kors.
Kors launched his womenswear line 27 years ago and since then has become known for designing chic yet sensible sportswear with an American aesthetic. He has won two CFDA awards, the most prestigious award in the fashion business. He is also a judge on the Emmy-nominated series "Project Runway".
Supermodel Heidi Klum who is a co-host of the show attended Kors' runway show but was mum on who is going to be the celebrity judge for the season finale being taped at Bryant Park on Friday (September 12).
"I don't even know who's going to be the guest judge for the finale. I have no idea. I'm going to be surprised myself," she said with a wink.
Blogs and gossip columnists are saying that it will be Jennifer Lopez.
