- Story Text: Dutch designers Viktor & Rolf presented a "Shirt Symphony" at Paris Fashion Week on Saturday (October 2), deconstructing the male business shirt in exaggerated portions, excessive layering and ironic detailing.
Masculinity appears to be a trend for next spring and summer, with designers like Dries Van Noten also showing the male form on the female body.
Viktor Horsting and Rolf Snocren took the iconic men's fashion staple, the work shirt in both classic and banker stripes, and played with sizes. The first look to ok varying sizes of short sleeves and layered them on top of each other.
Other highlights included a long asymmetric shirt that cut both across the legs and shoulder diagonally, the tuxedo metamorphized into cocktail dresses and the classic white shirt wrapped in by a long cummberbun ribbon, looking like a police street crime scene.
The grand finale was the wedding dress sequence where the shirts, in varying patterns, fabrics and shades of white were layered with exaggerated portions, with the designers' signature couture details that left the audience in awe.
Colour palette ranged from classic black and white a la tuxedo to bursts of aqua, red, flamingo and emerald. Fabrics included cotton, silk and fringe.
The avant garde designers are known for their sense of humour and irony, and make light of the fact that they look like twins, even finishing each other's sentences. The duo are partners in business as in life and according to singer Geri Halliwell, only a certain type of woman can wear their clothes.
