- Story Text: Colombian designer Pepa Pombo unveiled her women's collection for Autumn/Winter 2011/12 on Monday (March 7) during the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week at a pop-up tent in Mexico City's Campo Marte.
Pombo's 'Cool exotique' collection is directed at women who like to travel the world, with ribbon silhouettes.
Her clothes are drenched in different colours such as blue, corral, yellow and red.
Pombo's style is characterized by the use of knitwear. Pombo - who said she loved creating textures and seeing how they flowed - said she was very excited to be in Mexico City.
"We are starting a creativity lab. That's wonderful. I feel very proud because it was about time for attention to turn towards us. I speak as a Colombian, so that they realize what we are proposing."
On Monday, David Salomon who is originally Lebanese, presented his women's collection for Autumn/Winter 2011/12 called "Boheme" with a characteristic hippie feel.
Salomon presented 20 long stamped dresses in imperial and baby doll styles.
Sombre colours with highlights in red and green on silk and chiffon fabrics were used.
Salomon, who lives in Cancun, said Mexico was becoming a platform for fashion in the region.
"Mexico has a lot to boast about. I think there will come a time when Mexican fashion will occupy its rightful place. We have always been a reference point in terms of food, folklore, culture and colour so I don't think we'll be left behind in terms of fashion."
Some 45, mainly Latin American designers, will showcase their latest creations from March 6 to March 11 at the glamorous event. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
