- Story Text: For more than 50 years a big black bull has accompanied the car journeys of millions of Spaniards travelling through the country's roads.
The Osborne toro (Spanish for bull) evolved from been a sherry brand logo to almost an international icon that recalls Spain all over the world.
In an exercise to refresh the brand´s look six Spanish designers created 18 pieces of clothing and accessories inspired by the bull shape.
With prints, shoes and jewellery, Osborne´s communication manager Ivan Yanza said the brand was looking to expand their business and step into the fashion market.
"We are looking to refreshing the brand looking for other areas and we´d like to be involved in fashion. We created a new line of business and we have right now clothes or ties...all these complements about fashion and we want to be a new bull of Osborne," he said.
On Thursday (November 27) the brand organised a catwalk in Madrid to show the point of view of the renowned designers on the iconic bull.
Jewellery designer Patricia Nicolas said it was a challenge to modernise a traditional symbol which has been in the Spanish culture for decades.
"Yes it was a challenge because is a very typical Spanish icon and I had to create something modern and something different. At the beginning I thought it was going to be difficult but then with all my passion I made this and it´s great," she said.
In a syllogism with the popularity the bull has in the country Nicolas designed two necklaces with the shape of an eye and a mouth with the black animal inside.
Illustrator Ricardo Cavolo has had work on walls in Paris, New York and London but this time his canvas was the bull´s shape.
"I took the bull, the bull´s shape and put in some details having some sense between them and put in some details in every of the three bulls for creating a story inside of it. So the idea is that you are looking at the bull and you can feel the bull but at the same time you get some kind of story inside of it," the 32 year-old said.
Under the brand Toro, Osborne already has a fashion line which can be found in El Corte Ingles. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
